What kind of story is your life?

The Life Work Blog is about stories of women’s career and life paths – the influences that pushed or pulled them in certain directions, how they came to be in their current career or life situation.

Economist Tyler Cowan gave a TED Talk in November 2009, and spoke of our tendency to describe the world around us in terms of stories.

He cited a study in which people were asked to describe their lives, and listed several possibilities:

  • A Novel
  • A Race
  • A Battle
  • A Mess
  • A Play
  • The Seasons
  • A Journey
  • A Carousel
  • Something else . . . ?

Which does your life path most resemble? Post your one-word descriptor in the comments.
